Well, took off an entire week from running...last week was very hectic with teeth pulling, baby craft projects, baby shower and company! Wanted to run last night but found out that I didn't make it into the Houston 1/2 marathon and it was raining. Certainly didn't feel like running after that.
Tonight I ran/walked about 4.6 miles. I ran the first 1.3 miles and then ran walked the rest. Went after dark so it wasn't so hot. It was a blasting 99 degrees when I got home from work! Run felt pretty good and probably could have run more of the distance, but didn't want to over do it.
Purpose of this blog
For years my favorite motto has been "use it or lose it". It applies to so many different areas of life, but the main way that I think of this motto, though, is with exercise and getting old. I am 48 and supposedly on the "downhill" side of life. For the last 5 years I have exercised a good amount. I trained and participated in the BP MS 150 for 4 years and did my first half marathon last March. I lived my motto and felt stronger and better than I did in my twenties. So...the big question is, why did I give it all up and stop exercising for the last four months??? I have all kinds of aches and pains and definitely feel older than when I was exercising.
I would like to do several half marathons early next year and need to start from scratch getting back into shape. I'm hoping this blog will be my motivation to get back into shape...it will chronicle the struggle of someone who "lost it" and is trying to get "it" back. Hopefully others will join in the battle to gain strength and get a general well-being back into their lives! :)
