Purpose of this blog

For years my favorite motto has been "use it or lose it". It applies to so many different areas of life, but the main way that I think of this motto, though, is with exercise and getting old. I am 48 and supposedly on the "downhill" side of life. For the last 5 years I have exercised a good amount. I trained and participated in the BP MS 150 for 4 years and did my first half marathon last March. I lived my motto and felt stronger and better than I did in my twenties. So...the big question is, why did I give it all up and stop exercising for the last four months??? I have all kinds of aches and pains and definitely feel older than when I was exercising.

I would like to do several half marathons early next year and need to start from scratch getting back into shape. I'm hoping this blog will be my motivation to get back into shape...it will chronicle the struggle of someone who "lost it" and is trying to get "it" back. Hopefully others will join in the battle to gain strength and get a general well-being back into their lives! :)

Finally made a break through this past week...made it to 4 miles without stopping and started adding another mile to the distance.

Tuesday I ran 4 miles with one stop and was so close to running the whole distance. Thursday I thought I would make it the whole way but ended up breathing in an almost microscopic bug. This doesn't seem like much but it caused a mild allergic/asmatic response...I started wheezing a little and couldn't breath with all the mucus that formed. Had to stop at the 2 mile mark and walked for quite a while. I did run the last mile but it wasn't easy.

Anyway, Saturday I decided to run 5 miles...ran 4 without stopping then walked for a fairly short time and then ran the rest home. It seemed to take longer than last year to get to that point...must be getting older!!!

Today I ran to Kirsten's and back which is somewhere between 5 and 5.5 miles. I already had it set in my mind that I was going to stop to say hello...so I did...even though I ended up not stopping in. Mind games!!

Ahhhh!!! Just wrote a post and it didn't go through!! I'll try again!!

Ran last Saturday with Kerri. We did 4 miles with a pretty good pace for the 1st 2 miles. I had to stop at the 2 mile mark due to an extremely dry mouth (obviously not drinking enough water). I had to stop twice!

I ran yesterday in the beautiful "San Diego" weather (we only get a couple of those every year here in Houston) and did 4 miles again. Only had to stop once. Started using a pedometer for Walktober and logged 6269 steps.

Ran 4 miles today and didn't stop for the first 3 miles. Only walked for a very short time. I logged 6201 steps so I definitely walked for a shorter distance. It felt great to run this weekend. Need to try to fit in 3 runs during the school week. That so far has not been easy!
